gps and airspaceAirspace for Garmins

It is possible to see the airspace on the map screen of any of the Garmin Map series of instruments.

Firstly on the map screen press menu and go to setup map. Find the saved tracks option (under 'line' in the 76s) and set it to 'auto'. This means that any saved track can be shown on the map screen.

Garmin76s only takes 10 saved tracked, 60s and more modern ones take more.

Using IGC files for airspace

There are 10 igc files for the Laragne airspace here.

Load the files into the Garmin as saved tracks (log files). Compegps will do this fine.

Make sure each of the saved tracks in the Garmin has the 'show on map and highway' box ticked.

Using Openair text file

It is possible to use GPSDump and openair text files to upload the CTRs to the Garmin as a log file.

There are a couple of bugs at the moment (version 4.36)

1. The circles are drawn with km rather than nautical miles. If you change the openair file to radiuses converted to kms then no problem. Remember to change them back though otherwise they will be non-standard.

2. The track names are confused and sometimes down upload correctly. Try it and see. Make sure all of the regions are uploaded.

Stein Sorenson (the author of GPSDump) has fixes for the bugs and no doubt will have a new version soon.
